Celebratory Colour Run
Cornwallis Academy marked the opening of its Diamond Jubilee year-long celebrations on Friday 28th September.
Staff and students alike celebrated, starting with our annual Macmillan Cake sale, organised this year by the Modern Foreign Languages department, with a ‘Countries of the World’ theme. All the cakes sold out in just 15 minutes raising over £220 for Macmillan, which was an excellent achievement.
Students had a session researching the history of Lord Cornwallis and origins of the Cornwallis Stag, as well as their local community, producing some excellent work to be displayed around the school. As part of these activities, students were asked to write an inspirational quote and their name on a paper brick in their House colour, which will be displayed to create our Diamond Jubilee ‘Wall,’ to commemorate the occasion.
During the lunch break students continued their fundraising efforts, with a number of stalls running, including; pin the antler on the Cornwallis stag, soak the teacher and apple bobbing, raising over £150.
The day culminated with our grand opening ‘Colour Run,’ where students and staff ran a circuit of our outstanding sports facilities whilst celebrating in colour, laughter and cheer. Sponsorship money for this event is still coming in, however, nearly £4,000 has been raised so far.
One parent thanked the school for their hard work in organising the day and commented that her daughter has “not stopped talking about what a great day it was and how much fun she had. A day everyone will remember for a long time.”
Mrs Linney-Drouet, headteacher said ‘What an amazingly colourful afternoon! Students and Staff had an excellent day, having all learnt something new about their school and local area whilst having fun in the process.’
