Maidstone United Partnership

Cornwallis Academy and Maidstone United Football Club’s Partnership goes from strength to strength.

From September 2020, Cornwallis and Maidstone United are launching two new bespoke programmes for students starting in Year 7, and those wishing to study at our post-16 facility.

In Sixth Form, the partnership will be offering a Post-16 Girls’ Football Academy. This will be the only Girls’ Football Academy in Maidstone and the surrounding areas. Learners will have the opportunity to participate in the Under 17s Schools’ League and Kent Schools’ Cup, as well as having three training sessions at Cornwallis Academy and The Gallagher Stadium, run by UEFA Qualified Coaches with over 7 years of experience running a Post-16 Boys’ Academy. Additional courses will also be available to these students, including an Officiating Course and First Aid. Alongside the football, learners will also study three or four level 3 subjects from our range of A-levels and Btecs.

For Year 7 students, we are offering a fully subsidised Football Scholarship, which includes weekly training sessions at Cornwallis Academy with Maidstone United UEFA Qualified Coaches; fixtures in the Kent Schools’ League, a place at the PDC (Player Development Centre) and a kit package. This will give Year 7 students a 5-year progression plan with the opportunity to graduate into the Post-16 Football Academy.

Cornwallis Academy, Headteacher, Mrs Linney-Drouet said “Since we started working with Maidstone United two years ago our relationship has continued to grow, ensuring the best for all of our students and post-16 learners. I am delighted that our partnership with Maidstone United Football Club is being underpinned by the two additional programmes we are now able to offer from September 2020. I hope that the strengthened partnership allows both the school and the club to grow in the community.”

Terry Casey, Co-Owner of Maidstone United Football Club said; "The partnership between Maidstone United and Cornwallis Academy is already an overwhelming success story. As a community football club, we are acutely aware of the importance of working with a school like Cornwallis who are developing a reputation for excellence in everything they undertake. Together we will launch the first Girls’ Football Academy in Maidstone. We have high expectations that this project will evidence both the football club's and the school's drive and determination to be inclusive and outstanding"
