Year 9: Cornwallis vs Oakwood Park Grammar School

Match report by Mr King

Cornwallis’ year 9 football team made it two wins out of two after a much improved performance against Oakwood Park. Cornwallis began strongly, passing the ball confidently and pressing the opposition high, scoring three goals through Noah Scales, Matthew Tierney and a wonderful back heel goal from Finley Chatfield. Oakwood Park began to see more of the ball before half time and their efforts were rewarded, finding the net just before half time.

Half time score line: Cornwallis 3 – 1 Oakwood Park GS

Cornwallis grabbed their fourth of the game 30 seconds into the second half, with Matthew Tierney grabbing his second of the game, before Oakwood made the game 4-2 with a goal on the counter attack. Cornwallis dominated the rest of the half, with the impressive Alfie Sanders scoring a deserved goal and then Matthew Tierney grabbing his second hat trick in two games. Oakwood replied with a third goal but Cornwallis ran out comfortable winners. A tricky encounter next week as the team face Borden Grammar at home in the second round of the Kent Cup.
